The Brooklin Community Centre and Library

8 Vipond Road

Brooklin Village, Ontario

Directions: Exit HWY-401 at Brock St. in Whitby, head north on Brock St. and continue to Baldwin St./Durham Regional HWY-12, turn left on to Campbell St. and continue onto Vipond Road, the Centre will be on your right.

Time:

The show is open to the public from 10a.m. to 4p.m.

Registration for competition entries is from 8a.m. to 10a.m.

The judging for the competition begins at 10 a.m.

Admission is free, however a donation at the door is much appreciated!

Levels:

NOVICE:  an artist who has not won enough ribbons to advance to the next level


INTERMEDIATE:  an artist who has won one "Best of Novice" or a total of two first place ribbons at the novice level


OPEN:  any artist may compete at this level, an artist whose work is advanced may also be required to compete at this level, even if they have never competed previously, any artist with one "Best of Intermediate" or two first place ribbons at the intermediate level.

Rules and Regulations:

  1.  In categories 1 through 11, artists will compete at the skill levels novice, intermediate, and open.               
  2. Individual club "In-House" competitions do not affect any of the above classifications.
  3. The honor system prevails in determining an artist's classification.
  4. All the entries must have been completed in the 12 months prior to the competition, and must be the original work of the entrant.
  5.  Artist's must provide any bases or display stands for their entries.
  6.  Entries created from kits, the use of a CNC machine, or intarsia are not permitted.
  7. A $10 fee will be charged for the first entry, then a $5 fee will be charged for each additional entry, with a limit of 3 entries per carver per category.
  8. Registration will take place on the day of the competition, between 8 am and 10 am. All entries must remain in the competition display area until released to the entrant at 4 pm.
  9.  The show judges reserve the right to transfer any entry from level or category to another, or to combine categories where the numbers of entries is not sufficient to provide competition.
  10. The prizes awarded at this competition are as follows, Categories 1st, 2nd, 3rd, honorable mention ribbons . Best of Novice  1st, 2nd, 3rd ribbons. Best of Intermediate 1st, 2nd, 3rd ribbons, Best of Open 1st, 2nd, 3rd ribbons, Best of Other Woodworking Arts 1st, 2nd, 3rd ribbons, Best of Show ribbon, People's Choice ribbon.
  11. The Best of Show award is judged from categories 1 through 9, the Best of Other Woodworking Art is judged from categories 10 and 11.
  12. All ribbons awarded at this show, with the exception of the People's Choice Award, are granted at the judge's discretion and Final.
  13.  While every precaution will be taken to ensure the safety and security of your entries, the Brooklin Woodcarvers will not be responsible for any loss or damage to any entries in the competition
